Add to your self-care “bank”
The month of September has me excited and motivated for the Fall season ahead.
I love who the season of Fall calls us to be. I believe that Fall brings forth a grounded version of ourselves - a version of ourselves that is ready to support the dreams that came out of Summer by creating structure and settling into new routines. I believe Fall is here to nourish us before we turn inward in preparation for a cozy Winter.
Last month we discussed getting clear on who and what is in our “corner” so that we can take good care of these people and these things. We know that in order to show up as our best, we need to take really good care of ourselves first! For the last few years, I have been thinking of self-care like investing, but in myself! In order to have enough money in my self-care bank, there are a bunch of little things I need to do to keep myself feeling good...
For example, I try to move my body in some way once or twice a week. I create space to rest and I try to make mindful decisions when it comes to nourishing my body. This may seem basic, but for me, basic is where it’s at! This simple mindset is helpful because anything extra that I add to my routine feels like warm honey! It feels delicious and soothing and, honestly, it makes me feel proud!
I feel like the moments when I am able to add something extra to my simple routines, it’s like I am putting 5, 10, or 20 dollars in my piggy bank for a rainy day. If I take a bath in Epsom salt, all of a sudden I feel RICH in my mind, body, and spirit. I’m like wow...I am really good at this self-care stuff. I really love myself. I am really great at making investments!
Like investing, all of these little moments of self-care compound, and their results are evident! For example, all the small quiet moments of journaling throughout the years have led to a deeper sense of clarity in myself than I ever could have imagined. Seeing and really feeling the results of the small investments add up. They continue to motivate me to invest in my “self-care” bank. When I feel abundant, it becomes easier to invest.
My hope for all of us this season is to ground and support ourselves through small self-care practices. Fall is a time of change and new beginnings, and in many ways, it offers us a chance to reset and commit to new sustainable practices.
